An eSafety (or pink slip) inspection report verifies your vehicle is safe and ready for the road.
What is an e-safety check?
An e-safety check, or previously called a Pink Slip is a general check over on the car (vehicle) in order to determine its road worthy. It is basically a safety check on the most important components that verifies your vehicle is safe and ready for the road.
How much does Safety Check (Pink Slip) cost?
Pink slips have a standard cost, which depends on your vehicle, and are separate to the cost of registration. This table shows the current maximum fee for the most common inspection effective 1 April 2021.:
When do I need an e-Safety Check (pink slips)?
Vehicles more than 5 years old will require a safety inspection as a condition of registration renewal. Your registration renewal notice will advise if your vehicle needs an inspection. If your vehicle requires an inspection and you wish to renew your registration please call us today and we will be more then happy to help you.
What does an e-Safety Check/pink slip include?
When you go to get your pink slip, your mechanic will assess your vehicle on a number of factors, and run a variety of tests and checks that must be passed.
- Tyre quality and tread depth
- Vehicle body condition
- Working electrics such as headlights, blinkers, interior lights and dash lights
- Engine/suspension/exhaust and driveline condition
- Seatbelt condition
- Engine and driveline fluid leaks
- Brake efficiency test
If your car PASSES an e-Safety Check (Pink Slips):
- Your mechanic electronically sends the safety check report to the Transport for NSW.
- Purchase a green slip (mandatory insurance).
- Renew your rego online, by mail, phone or your nearest MVR.
If your car FAILS an e-Safety Check (Pink Slips):
- Your mechanic will issue a ‘repairs needed report’.
- Repairs will need to be made by the mechanic or another of your choosing.
- Have the repairs checked (if repairs are carried out by Sydney Mechanic and Smash Repair this will happen automatically).
- Once the repairs have been made and your vehicle passes the safety check, you can renew your registration online.
How long does a pink slip last?
Once your vehicle has passed inspection and you’ve been issued your pink slip, you have 42 days to use it to register your vehicle. If you do not register within that time, you will be required to obtain another pink slip again.
