Replace A Transfer Case Sydney Eastwood Car

If you have determined that your transfer case is no longer good, it’s time to replace it. Car that can do 4-wheel or all-wheel drive, the day might come when you’ll need to replace it. Of course, you can take your vehicle to a repair shop, but putting in a new one is much easier than you might think. If you’re looking to save some cash by doing this repair yourself, here’s a list of what tools you’ll need to replace your transfer case and simple steps to follow for doing it on your own. But if you not sure how to replace it, go to the experience car mechanic to do it.

A tool you need:

  • Floor jack
  • Jack stands
  • Transmission Jack
  • Oil pan
  • Socket and box end wrenches
  • Penetrating fluid
  • Work lights
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves
  • Closed toe shoe
  • Simple replacement process steps

Strat to replace your transfer case:

  1. Prepare the vehicle: lift up the front of the vehicle and then prop it up with jack stands.
  1. Disconnect the transfer case from the following parts:
  • Front and rear driveshafts
  • Any wiring harnesses
  • Speedometer cable (if present)
  • Shift lever linkage (if present)
  • Vent hose
  • Transfer case support member
  • Transmission adapter
  1. Lower the transfer case with the transmission jack and then remove it.
  2. Install the new transfer case in the reverse order of removal.

After you did replace new transfer case, you also need to refill the transfer case fluid as well.

  1. Reinstall the drain plug: Once the fluid has drained completely, reinstall the drain plug, leaving the fill plug out.
  2. Refill the transfer case: The transfer case does not have a dipstick to check fluid level. It is basically “fill till you spill.” Using either the fluid bottle top or syringe, fill the fluid into the filler plug hole until fluid runs out of it.
  3. Clean up: Reinstall the fluid fill plug. Wipe any excess fluid from the transfer case. Dispose of the use fluid properly. In most cases, your local auto parts store will take used oil/fluids and recycle them free of charge.
