Van belts are a regular vehicle maintenance item.
If your car got loud squeals, poor battery charging, and even overheating. Those may be the symptoms that you should investigate the drive belts on your engine and potentially replace them.
All motor vehicles use at least one drive belt, some have up to four, depending on the number of accessories fitted to the engine.
There are two types of drive belt
- V-type – Sits in the deep v-shaped groove of the pulley wheel, contacting the sides of the groove
- Serpentine – Flat with a number of grooves running lengthwise which run in reverse of the grooves on the outer edge of the pulley wheel. The grooves increase the contact surface area to prevent the belt from slipping as it rotates.
